Veteran Art Therapy is a 501 (c)(3) organization that was formed in 2017. We believe passionately in the power of art to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately the world. We aim to improve the lives of veterans and their families by providing them with creative arts and art therapy services.
Art Therapist & Licensed Professional Counselor
Rachel Mims, MS, ATR-BC, LPC-AT is a board-certified art therapist and licensed professional counselor. She is a U.S. Army veteran and has worked with Veteran Art Therapy since it was formed. Rachel has worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, nonprofits, higher education, private practice, and telehealth. Rachel has been a member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) and the North Texas Art Therapy Association (NTATA) since 2012 and the American Counseling Association since 2014. She currently serves as the President-Elect for NTATA and on the Board of Directors for AATA. Rachel volunteers via her Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter as well as via her local Master Naturalist chapter. Rachel's favorite art activities include art journaling, mail art postcards, book bidning, and abstract painting. Rachel believes that everyone can be creative if they can learn to ignore their inner critic!
